Green Gables

We drove over the top of the hill and Matthew pulled up.  He went to point Green Gables out to me but I wanted to guess - I knew my heart would lead me to my new home.
I could see a little church and a valley behind it.  My eyes went from one house to the other - none of them seemed to speak to me at all,  I was getting so disheartened when I saw it - over on my left.  A gorgeous house back from the road and above it in the sky a crystal-white star - I could see a plethera of promise and guidance,
I knew it.  I was home.
As we drove into the yard it was getting dark and the trees were creaking and groaning.  I just knew they were talking in their sleep to welcome me.  Oh what a wonderful life lay ahead of me.

New Friends

As we travelled past The Lake of Shining Waters (Barry's Pond) I asked Matthew why it had such a drab name.  He was vague in answer but just attributed it to being part of Mr Barry's farm.
When I asked about children he told me Mr Barry had a daughter about my age - Diana.
Oh what a perfectly lovely name.
I just knew with a name like that we were going to be wonderful friends.

Glorious

I was so excited to see Green Gables.  Mrs Spencer, the social worker, had told me so much about it.  She said there were trees all around it.  I was gladder than ever - I do so love trees.
We turned a corner and oh my heart did sing - what a beautiful avenue; apple trees reaching across the road to meet in the middle full of white blooms.  Oh I think my heart will burst from the joy. I just sat and took it all in.  I don't think I said a word the whole way along the avenue and out the other side. When I asked Matthew what that place was called he told me it was simply "The Avenue".  Oh what a disappointment - I decided straight away I would rename it - the White Way of Delight.
We travelled past a pond filled with the chorus of frogs.  "Barry's pond" Matthew grumbled at me when I asked him the name.  Oh that just can't do - I shall call it.... hmmm let's see... The Lake of Shining Waters.

Meeting Matthew

I approached this man - Matthew Cuthbert - and introduced myself,  I was so nervous and when I get nervous I do talk.  I get in trouble all the time.  But there was silence and so I starting telling about the cherry tree across the paddock I had decided to sleep in if no one arrived.  I talked and talked until I had to stop and draw breath.

We drove through some gorgeous lane ways and tree lined avenues but when I questioned Mr Cuthbert he didn't seem to be able to answer my questions.  "What tree is that", "What makes the road red?" and thousands more.  I don't understand why you wouldn't find out the answers to these questions if you lived in such a glorious place.

I thought I would be so happy here until Matthew mentioned the colour of my hair.  I wish I could say it was a glorious black or a pure gold but no my hair is red.  Who could be happy with red hair?

Waiting

Oh what a day - I caught the train all by myself to a place called Bright River.  Doesn't that sound just divine. How could a place with a name like that be anything but simply gorgeous.
I got off the train and waited on the seat that the station master pointed out for me.  I looked anxiously up and down the street - waiting for my new family.  After what seemed like an eternity a horse and cart headed towards the station and I leaned forward on my chair in anticipation.
My hopes were dashed when they went straight past me and into the stations masters office but then I heard them discussing a little boy - apparently this man was expecting another person from the orphan asylum but he hadn't arrived. After much discussion this gentleman decided an error had been made and I was in fact the orphan he was to pick up.
